Cheap Pet Food

Processed pet food can be very expensive. And many times it contains all sorts of fillers. Using coupons can help you save on pet food, and so can making the food yourself. If you own a dog or cat, for instance, they are carnivores. Before they were domesticated, they hunted prey, eating the meat of their kill.

While you wouldn’t send your dog or cat out to hunt for their own dinner these days, you can purchase inexpensive meat and boil it on the stove with some rice. Make a large batch weekly that you can refrigerate and serve throughout the week, or make an even bigger batch and freeze it in daily containers.

You can purchase a jar of inexpensive daily pet vitamins from your local pet store, adding one to the meal each day. This way you can be sure that your pet is getting all of its nutrients.

I personally started making my own dog food more than a year ago. I have a large dog, and I only pay about 3 to 4 dollars a week for her food now, whereas before I was spending almost three times that amount. I also add in leftovers to the mix to avoid throwing them out. The only thing I avoid is wheat products, as she has trouble digesting them.

You can look up cheap pet food recipes online, or you can wing it. I read up on the basics, consulted vets and professionals, and found that my dog is much healthier and happier eating homemade food. Making it isn’t that hard, and it is well worth it when I think of all the money I save.
